Trees in Communities

Urban forests take more than sunshine and water to thrive. It’s why we nurture the ecosystem of people, organizations, and municipalities who plan, plant, advocate, and care for them.

Growing a better world street by street

As temperatures rise, trees tame urban heat and reduce pollution. They provide neighborhood gathering places and give mental health a boost. They even protect homes from flooding and erosion.

But not everyone has access to trees’ benefits. With nearly 70% of the world expected to live in urban areas by 2050, planting trees now is critical to set neighborhoods up for success for the years ahead.

How we work

While trees do good wherever they’re planted, we focus our efforts on areas where trees can have the greatest positive impact on people’s lives. Our vast and vibrant network makes this work come to life wherever there’s a need.

We champion our partners with the resources, recognition, and community to help them make a green, meaningful difference for the long-term. We’ve been doing it for more than 50 years, and we’re just getting started.

Recognizing those championing community trees

Campuses, utilities, and cities play a major role in laying the groundwork for a healthy and holistic urban canopy. These annual recognition programs validate and celebrate the good they’re growing.
